Many may wonder what Southern Ohio Paranormal Research thinks about the phenomenon we capture or what others may capture. Below you will find out!
Apparition (Shadow Figure) -
Considered the "holy grail" of evidence, by most, the existence of shadow figures has yet to be conclusively proven. Many groups have caught these figures on camera and have exhausted efforts to give natural explanation for their existence. Just like everything else you must rule out all natural causes before stating it is paranormal in nature.
Ecto (Ectoplasm) -
Some think this phenomenon is the remnants of a ghost entering our plane. Photographically this can be caused by moisture, however we have not experienced this phenomenon nor claimed to have experienced it. We are unable to form a solid opinion at this point.
EVP (Electronic Voice Phenomenon) -
One of the most caught pieces of evidence. This phenomenon is the imprinting of a disembodied voice onto a recording device. The actual method in which this is done is unknown and is currently being researched by SOPR as well as many other groups.
False Positive -
Evidence that upon quick glance may seem to be paranormal in nature. It is with a more thorough review you may notice the evidence was actually created by natural means. SOPR has experienced this and will continually showcase False Positives in our galleries.
Mist -
This has been seen on several pieces of evidence across the web and unfortunately by its very nature is easily discredited. Mist can be caused by changes in the environment and moisture in the air. Just like orbs we must use this in conjunction with other evidence. While we have not experienced this phenomenon we will not use mist alone as definitive evidence.
OAP (Other Audio Phenomenon) -
Coined by SOPR. This acronym helps to categorize audio that like EVP does not belong in the environment. OAP's can range from bumps, thuds or other non-voice audio.
Orbs -
Orbs are mainly photographed but can be present on video as well. While Orbs are not a definitive piece of evidence they must be used in conjunction with available evidence. Most consider orbs to be the energy of spirits who inhabit a location. SOPR is on the fence with this, we agree they may be some form of energy, but cannot say 100% they are energy of spirits. You can discount almost all orbs as being dust or moisture, however there may be times that may warrant the orb being seriously considered. We have only a few instances of orbs which may or may not be of natural causes unfortunately we are unable to provide them for review so we must discard them as evidence.
Paranormal -
A word we use in our own name. Breaking the word apart you get two individual words. Para, meaning above, and normal. This then shows you Paranormal simply means above-normal. In this field it is our responsibility to determine the "normal" state of a location. Only then are we able to state conditions were paranormal.
Poltergeist -
This activity is normally associated with the movement of objects. Unfortunately this is not the definition of a Poltergeist, this term is translated from German to mean Noisy Ghost. SOPR has not encountered "noisy ghosts" at this point unless you interpret it to mean EVP's or sounds captured on audio. We are still attempting to form an opinion.
Rod -
A light anomaly which looks like a rod or other elongated form. Emits a very bright light either in yellow or orange. Unfortuantely this type of phenomenon has not been captured by Southern Ohio Paranormal Research and we are unable to provide a definitive opinion on this at the moment.
Telekinesis -
The movement of an object with the power of thought. This is usually mistaken for Poltergeist activity. Some research shows Telekinesis is more prominent in females approaching their teen years. It is stated the increase in hormones within females causes a large amount of energy to build up. This energy when released is thought to cause objects in the room to move without human physical interaction. We have yet to experience this phenomenon and have yet to form a solid opinion.
Vortex (Vortices) -
Considered a "gateway" to our plane. This phenomenon can be created by a number of natural methods. The most common is the camera strap in front of the lens. SOPR has not experienced this type of phenomenon and have not formed a solid opinion.
